Food and Memory: Proust and Ratatouille

  • 18 Reasons 3674 18th Street San Francisco, CA, 94110 United States (map)

Before Camila turned to food full time, she had a long career as a literature professor. This will be the first class in which Camila will guide us through the fascinating connection between language and food. And we are starting off with the classic of food literature: Proust's madeleine. We will start out with a brief reading of a literary passage and a film clip, and discuss what food memory means to each of us. Then we will cook a full menu together, inspired by Proust, the beautiful animated film Ratatouille, and Camila's own interpretation of food memory and food nostalgia. Over our meal at the table, we will share food and memories.

Menu:
Ratatouille 2 ways
Slow-baked Salmon with Sauce Verte
Congee
Madeleines (French shell-shaped sponge cookies) with dulce de leche, dipped in tea
