Ever wondered how the pros get those great food photos? Join us for this 2-session interactive workshop to find out. Internationally renowned food photographer Becky Lawton and Sobremesa’s own Camila Loew will lead the class from Barcelona, where they are collaborating on Camila's The Sobremesa Cookbook.
Whether you have a fancy camera or a smart phone, a grandiose collection of fancy china or a mismatched pile of garage-sale-sourced dishware, you can take exceptional photos with style at home. If you are an aspiring cookbook writer or blogger, or you want your photos to look better for social media or just for fun, this workshop is for you.
Class schedule:
Day 1: Camila and Becky will Zoom in from Becky's photography studio in Barcelona. Camila will guide you in making 2 simple recipes while they cover aspects of pre-production, such as sourcing ingredients and selecting props. Learn to prepare backgrounds from everyday items found in your home or easily sourced. They will discuss basic lighting and demonstrate ingredient shots and still life. You'll see how the process works in a studio with professional equipment, with advice for adapting those techniques to your own environment and gear.
Day 2: The journey continues as Becky joins Camila at her home in the hills outside the city. The instructors will analyze and discuss a selection of photos taken by students during Class 1. You will conclude cooking and, using the finished recipes, practice composition and two contrasting styling techniques: a simple, natural look, as well as one that is more groomed and dolled-up. You'll learn tips for photographing difficult subjects, such as soups or stews, and for making the best use of the light and surroundings available in your home
Throughout both sessions, we'll pause periodically so you can practice taking photos of your own, incorporating the tips you learn along the way. Becky's photos will be shown on-screen so you can observe details in real time. We'll have plenty of time for interaction and questions.
The workshop will be recorded, and you'll have access to the video after class, along with a file of class photos for your ongoing reference.
Please note: This workshop will not cover how to use a camera or smartphone and will not focus on the use of editing apps.
