EVER WONDERED HOW THE PROS GET SUCH GREAT FOOD PHOTOS?

Join internationally renowned food photographer Becky Lawton and cooking instructor and cookbook author Camila Loew for this interactive workshop to find out. Whether you use a fancy camera or a smart phone, a grandiose collection of fancy china or a mismatched pile of garage sale dishware, you can take exceptional photos with style at home. If you're an aspiring cookbook writer or blogger, or you want better photos for social media or just for fun, this workshop is for you.

Workshop Highlights:

  • CAMILA AND BECKY will Zoom in from Becky’s photography studio in Barcelona, Spain, where they've recently finished collaborating on Camila's cookbook.

  • CAMILA WILL GUIDE YOU in making 2 very simple recipes to use in your practice photos; cook along, or simply watch and make them later. You can also practice with other cooked foods or ingredients you have handy.

  • BECKY AND CAMILA WILL DEMONSTRATE photo approaches for ingredient shots and still life, showing you how the process works in a studio with professional equipment, and how to adapt those techniques to your own environment and gear.

  • YOU'LL PRACTICE TAKING PHOTOS of your own, incorporating the tips you learn along the way. Becky’s in-process photos will be shown on screen, allowing you to observe details in real time. We'll have plenty of time for interaction and questions.

You'll Learn About:

  • CAMERA ANGLES AND COMPOSITION through the examination of a series of Becky's photos.

  • IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF PRE-PRODUCTION, like sourcing ingredients, selecting props, and preparing backgrounds from everyday items found in your home or easily sourced.

  • PRINCIPLES OF LIGHTING, including making the best use of the light and surroundings in your own home.

  • TIPS FOR PHOTOGRAPHING DIFFICULT SUBJECTS, such as soups or stews.

  • CONTRASTING STYLING TECHNIQUES. You'll use your finished class recipes to practice composition of two styles: a simple, natural look, and one that is more groomed and dolled-up.

The workshop will be recorded, and you’ll have access to the video after class, along with a file of class photos for your ongoing reference.

Please note: This workshop will not cover how to use a camera, smartphone or editing apps. The session will be taught in English; both instructors are also fluent in Spanish.
